Hot Stove Game

No comments

Hot Stove game helps new students learn the left hand finger numbers.    Student pretends the left hand thumb is a hot stove.   Parents or siblings or friends call out numbers between 1 and 4 and the student practices quickly touching the correct finger to the thumb.

Index Finger = 1

Middle Finger = 2

Ring Finger = 3

Pinkie = 4

Other useful names for this game are: Prickly Needle (for sewing enthusiasts) and Hot Potato (for those opposed to the idea of touching a hot stove!).   Some teachers might also refer to this as finger popping.

The game also helps build muscle tone in the fingers.  Ideally fingers drop on to the strings eventually instead of the student pressing the fingers on to the string.
