Artist Bio – Emily Sunderman

Summary

Emily Sunderman is an artist, violinist, and arts educator. She has maintained a lifelong painting practice, performs solo and with orchestras, musical pit bands, wedding ensembles, church choirs and The Addison String Quartet, teaches private lessons to violin and cello students of all ages, and directs an all ages string ensemble program through the Middlebury Community Music Center. Her paintings are in private collections and the occasional show. Recent paintings can be viewed on her instagram (@esunderm).

Teaching Experience

• Violin and Cello Teacher,  Middlebury Community Music Center, Middlebury, VT. Offering private lessons, group class and chamber music coaching. Nurturing  and maintaining a studio of 25 students. (2014-current)
• Director, Community String Ensembles, Middlebury Community Music Center, Middlebury, VT. Community String Ensembles is a tuition free program that facilitates intergenerational chamber music for string players of all ages and levels. Duties include fundraising, connecting players to the program, mentoring coaches, creating ensembles, choosing repertoire, teaching, marketing, and planning. Assisting coaches involved in the program are High School and College students, many of whom have participated in the program since they were beginning students. Suzuki Twinklers and Book 1 students form a Suzuki Group class ensemble while seasoned players explore chamber works composed in the 14th century to the present day. (2014-current)
• Director, Camp Adagio, Middlebury Community Music Center, Middlebury, VT. Developed and directed summer camp curriculum;  coached chamber music ensembles, yoga classes, and tennis; led daily art explorations including printmaking, collage, drawing, painting and assemblage.  (2014- 2022)
• Director, Inservice Day YogArts  Program, Middlebury Community Music Center, Middlebury, VT.  Developed curriculum and led yoga and art based global culture inquiry on ACSU in-service days for students in grades 3-6.  (2015)
• FOAM Board Member and Secretary, Middlebury College Museum of Art FOAM (Friends of the Art Museum), Middlebury, VT (2012-2014).  Secretary at board meetings, planned and led visits to museums and visits with local artists.
