MCMC’s Community String Ensembles is a tuition free program that facilitates intergenerational chamber music for string players of all ages and ages. Community members from ages 5-99 are placed in small ensembles of similar playing ability and work together to explore chamber music on Friday afternoons.
This class is led by violinist and MCMC faculty member Emily Sunderman. Emily has an extensive music teaching and performance background and is known for leading many of the highly regarded musical activities in our community. Assisting teachers are advanced High School and College students hand-picked and recruited by Emily. High School and College students become leaders of ensembles, mentor beginning players and assist with teaching techniques and cultural practices related to the study and performance of chamber music. Suzuki Twinklers form a Suzuki Group class ensemble. More seasoned players are placed in small ensembles exploring chamber works composed in the 14th century to the present day. We all break for snacks and play with and for each other for the last 1/2 hour of class. MCMC partners with local venues such as Town Hall Theater for the final performances.
